Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201141082
Event: 03/24/1999
Employee injured from contact with saw blade guard

On March 24, 1999, newly hired Employee #1 was removing pieces cut by a panel saw, as they were being cut, and stacking them onto a pallet. The saw operator moved away from the saw to talk to a fork lift operator. Employee #1 felt uncomfortable standing and waiting for cutting to resume so he walked around the saw and began cutting parts. On his second try to cut the part, Employee #1's hand slipped and went under the descending pressure bar that acted as a guard on the saw. The descending bar amputated 1.5 inches of the second digit of Employee #1's right hand.
