Employee's arm amputated in pasta machine

At approximately 3:15 p.m. on September 27, 1997, Employee #1 was operating a pasta machine. An extrusion mechanism became jammed, and he tried to clear it by placing his right hand in that part of the machine without turning off the power. His arm was pulled into the moving parts, and he suffered crushing injuries and amputation of his arm below the elbow. Employee #1 was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, CA.
