Employee's Finger Is Injured by Lifting Block

At about 8:30 a.m. on May 18, 2005, Employee #1, a maintenance foreman, was freeing a jammed rope, located above the left side sheave of the southeast lifting block on a rubber-tire-mounted mobile crane (Mi- Jack Travel Lift, Model Number 470). As he shook the rope with his right hand by holding it just above the left sheave, the rope suddenly released, causing the lifting block to fall. The block then caught Employee #1's right little finger between the rope and the sheave groove, partially amputating it. He was transported to Concentra Occupational Medical Center in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. He was later transferred to Doctor's Medical Center in Montclair, CA, where surgery was performed.
