Employee injured in jump from moving crane

Employee #1, of Balfour Beatty Construction, Inc., was working on a seismic retrofit for the Carquinez Bridge in Crockett, CA. He asked a coworker to spot for him as he moved a Linkbelt crane from the company yard to the street. Employee #1 had backed the crane up a hill when he realized that the brakes had failed. He jumped from the crane as it rolled downhill toward a parked cement pump truck, sustaining a fractured left hip and wrist.
