Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170869804
Event: 03/10/2000
Employee's finger amputated in table saw during dado cut

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on March 10, 2000, Employee #1, of American Oak Curios, Inc., was using a 10 in. table saw to make narrow dado cuts in several boards. When he thought he had finished, the foreman pointed out several more boards. Employee #1 started to cut the next board when it kicked back, dropping his fingers into the saw blade and amputating his middle finger between the first and second joints. He was administered first aid by the company's manager and was then taken by a secretary to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, about 25 miles away. The saw's guard had been removed, which was permitted while making special cuts such as a dado.
