Event: 02/17/1997
Employee's thumb injured when caught in router

Employee #1 was preparing to drill a hole in a 16 in. by 5 in. board. He first removed all guarding from a table router, and then began free-hand cutting. The unguarded blade grabbed the wood and pulled his right thumb into the cutter, separating the skin and nail from the thumb. He sustained a fractured thumb and some bone loss.
