Event: 08/09/1997
EMPLOYEE INJURED IN FALL FROM ROOF

At approximately 7:00 a.m. on August 9, 1997, Employee #1, a sheet metal worker, was installing gutters on a one-story single-family dwelling. Employee #1 was measuring the roof perimeter so he could cut the gutter pieces. The roofing material had not been installed so Employee #1 was walking on the plywood sheeting. Employee #1 found the sheeting to be very slippery and took off his shoes to try to get better footing. Employee #1 had finished his measurements on the back of the house and was in the process of measuring a section on the front of the house. Employee #1 hooked his tape measure on one corner of the roof and was walking to the other corner when he slipped, slide down the roof, and fell to the ground. The roof had a six-to-twelve pitch and the eave was 11 ft above the ground. Employee #1 broke both wrists in the fall.
