Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170626329
Event: 01/30/2001
Employee Fractured Back and Neck in Fall from Roof

At approximately 9:00 a.m. on January 30, 2001, Employee #1, a heater installer, was installing a gas furnace in the attic area of a two story single family home. To complete the installation Employee #1 had to go out onto the roof to place a section of flue piping. Employee #1 accessed the roof by going out the open end gable, checking the roof for ice; he exited onto a south facing adjoining roof and then went around to the north side of the upper roof. When Employee #1 got near the top he slipped on some ice and slid down and off the roof. Employee #1 fell 20 ft and 5 in. The local fire department provided first aid prior to transporting Employee #1 to an area hospital where he was treated for fractures (hairline) in the back and the neck. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
