Investigation Summary
On February 27, 2001, Employee #1, a construction worker for Precision Framing Incorporated, had severe head trauma and fractured his spinal cord after falling from a roof. Employee #1 teamed up with other employees to pull a thirty five foot triple grinder truss into place on a residential home under construction in Folsom, California. Employee #1 was standing on the top plate of an interior wall that was next to the staircase. The staircase is a spiral type, and there is an open area on the north side of the staircase. When Employee #1 was standing on the top plate of the interior wall that is next to the stair case, he was exposed to a fall of over nineteen feet. The width of the top plate measured four inches. Employee #1 was using his claw hammer to help pull the truss into position when he slipped, lost his balance and fell over nineteen feet to the ground level. Employee #1 suffered severe head trauma and a fractured spinal cord. He went to a local hospital for treatment.
