Employee injured when finger lacerated by conveyor

On May 9, 2003, an employee was operating a Massman tray packer or line diverter which separates packs of bottles from one conveyor onto two conveyors. The Massman line diverter then jammed up. The Massman line diverter was de-energized by opening up the guards which are interlocked to the power supply. The operator unjammed the Massman line diverter when Employee #1 approached and placed his hand on a conveyor belt within the line diverter. The line diverter then cycled one time, lacerating the right index finger of Employee #1 who was hospitalized.
