Employee Fractures Back in Fall from Ladder

At approximately 7:00 a.m. on August 13, 2004, Employee #1 was working for his employer, a recycling facility in Lamont, California. Employee #1 was on a portable ladder placing a tarp over a trailer truck filled with cut plastic sheeting. Employee #2 was in the cab of the trailer truck. While still on the ladder, Employee #1 made a hand motion that was viewed by a coworker. The coworker misinterpreted the hand motion to mean the tarping activity was complete and moved the trailer truck. Employee #1 fell from the ladder and sustained injuries. Employee #1 required surgery for a back fracture at the Kern Medical Center. The incident was reported to the Division at 2:05 p. m. on August 16, 2004.
