Employee's Hand and Arm Caught in Conveyor

On June 8, 2001, an employee carrying a 25-ft section of hose, which was wrapped around his left hand and arm, entered a danger zone to clean off a running conveyor belt. This placed the employee in an area that was approximately 10 to 11feet high and directly under the auger discharge for the defeathering conveyor. While hosing down the belt, a loop of the hose caught on the conveyor and was pulled into the roller. The employee's hand and arm were still wrapped and were also pulled into the conveyor. The employee was hospitalized for a compound fracture to his left arm.
