Two Employees Are Struck by Falling Roof Trusses

At approximately 7:30 a.m. on July 2, 2001, Employees #1 and #2, laborers, were working in the wooden roof truss manufacturing area of the lumber yard. The two employees were stacking wooden roof trusses in a storage rack after construction. The trusses being handled were very large, 40-ft by 12-ft. They were stacked standing upright and secured by the back-tilt of the rack. The last truss that they stacked was not placed properly, and the tail ends got stuck under the previously stacked trusses. After placing the trusses, the two employees turned and started walking away, when several of the trusses were thrown back and fell on them. First aid was provided, and the two employees were taken by ambulance to the U.C. Davis Medical Center, where they were treated for head and back injuries before being released the same day.
