Investigation Summary
At approximately 1:45 p.m. on November 13, 2001, an employee was transferring packaged meat from the Cryovack Model 8300-18 Rotary Vacuum Chamber machine to a conveyor belt when one package of meat fell inside the machine. The employee attempted to retrieve the package of meat, when an unguarded rotating universal joint on the machine caught the left sleeve of the employee. The employee's left hand and arm was drawn in and wrapped around the universal joint mangling and breaking bones of the left arm.
