Employee Fractures Leg After Jumping Off Fork Lift

On October 1, 2002, Employee #1 was moving merchandise in the aisles of the store as he was driving a fork lift to the battery charging area. The fork lift quit steering to the right and drifted toward the left. He took his foot off the pedal, and the fork lift still did not stop. The fork lift gauge showed that the battery was discharged and needed charging. Employee #1 saw that he was going to hit the storage rack and started to jump off of the moving fork lift, but it was too late. The fork lift hit the rack and his left leg became pinned, fracturing his leg. He was taken to Kaweah Delta Hospital for treatment.
