Investigation Summary
On March 6, 2002, Employee #1, in the kill room area, was assigned to dehoof the legs of carcasses. This machine was operated by the right hand and the carcass leg was held by the left hand. The operator had to manipulate the carcass leg and cycle the machine until the outer hoof broke off and fell down the chute. He got his left thumb in the jaws of the dehoofing machine, amputating it. He was hospitalized.
