Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201175544
Event: 05/20/2004
Employee falls from ladder and dies

On May 20, 2004, an employee, the owner of National Window Cleaners, was cleaning windows at University Retirement Community in Davis, using a ladder to reach the second story windows. He stepped onto a wooden decorative trellis that hung over the window below and secured to the side of the building. Upon stepping onto the trellis, it pulled away from the building, and the employee fell 10 ft to damp soil. The City Of Davis Fire Department responded and transported the employee to Sutter Davis Hospital. He was later transferred to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he passed away on May 23rd. The Placer County Coroner listed the cause of death as large Retroperitoneal Hematoma, due to fractures of lumbar spine and to blunt force trauma.
