Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201175825
Event: 06/05/2004
Employee Is Injured When Trailer Rolls Over

On June 5, 2004, an employee, a tractor, was applying sulfur dust to grape vines. He was driving a Ford 1920 tractor with a PTO driven vineyard duster attached to the rear. The tractor was equipped with ROPS and seat belts. As the driver exited a row of vines, he started to make a turn to go up another row. He was momentarily distracted by the vines and made the turn too wide, resulting in the tractor riding the edge of a ditch, and a dirt road. He lost control of the tractor and it rolled into the ditch throwing the employee off. The Elk Grove Fire Department transported the employee to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. He sustained four cracked ribs on his left side, a slight fracture around the waist, and pain and stiffness to his right shoulder and neck. The employee was in the hospital for approximately seven days.
