Employee's finger amputated while using skillsaw

At approximately 9:15 a.m. on February 6, 2003, Employee #1, a carpenter, was working for Loverde Builders Inc., at 50 Edgecliff Court in Tahoe City, California cutting up scrap lumber. The employee was using a skill saw with the guard pinned back. While cutting, the saw kicked back and contacted the employee's finger, cutting off and mangling the end of the finger. Employee #1 was driven to the Truckee Tahoe Medical Group where he was given minor first-aid by the local fire department paramedics, who had been called to the clinic. He was then taken to the Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee, California where he was treated for an amputated middle finger. The doctor was unable to reattach the severed end of the finger. Employee #1 was not hospitalized.
