Employee injured in fall from roof, later dies

On February 2, 2000, Employee #1, a roofer with the Metal Roof Company of Roseville, CA, was part of a crew installing 53 ft long metal roof panels on a 4.5-in-12 pitched roof. The crew had been broken up into two groups to place the roof panels on each side of the roof area. At approximately 10:00 a.m., a break was called. Employee #1 and coworkers were moving off the roof toward a ladder when he slipped on the slick metal near the peak and began sliding down the roof. He fell approximately 26 ft 9 in. onto a concrete slab. Employee #1 was administered first aid by fire department paramedics before being transported by ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he was hospitalized with a fractured leg, fractured ribs, and a head injury. He died two days later.
