Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170869390
Event: 07/05/2000
Employee's finger injured when spray gun discharges

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on July 5, 2000, Employee #1, of Centerline Striping Company, Inc., was setting up in a parking lot to spray paint the parking stall lines. He had cleaned out the side-mounted spray gun and was adjusting the spray width of the striping nozzle. He moved the nozzle to "low" and was using both hands, one under the nozzle and the other on the trigger. When he pulled up, the spray gun discharged solvent from the nozzle, injecting it into his finger under the nozzle tip. Employee #1 told his foreman that he had cut his finger and did not need to go to the hospital, but the foreman, recognizing the injury, immediately drove him to Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, CA. Employee #1 was hospitalized and nearly lost his finger and hand as a result of the accident.
