Employee injured in fall from battery box of garbage truck

On August 14, 1998, Employee #1, a truck driver for a garbage and recycling service, was at a landfill preparing to offload his truck when the tarp covering his load became caught. A witness observed Employee #1 standing on the truck's battery box, and pulling on the truck's tarp ropes. He fell approximately 30 in., striking the ground hard on his side. Employee #1 was hospitalized for treatment of a fractured hip.
