Employee Loses Fingers Using A Finger Joint Machine

Employee #1, a finger joint operator, lost his middle finger and pinky while working on a finger joint machine. His employer operates a finger joint operation in a Susanville, California plant. He was pushing on the carriage of the finger joint machine when suddenly his hand slipped and became caught between the carriage and the roll case. The carriage moves with the finger joint as it comes out of the finger joint machine. A saw on the carriage cuts the finger joint stock to the length required for processing the order. Employee #1's middle finger and pinky were amputated by the carriage as it passed over the roll case. He went to a local hospital for treatment.
