Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170361752
Event: 02/14/1997
Employee fractures ankle in fall from orchard ladder

Employee #1 was on the seventh or eighth step of a 10 ft aluminum orchard ladder, trimming a prune tree. The ground was very wet from recent storms and there were tractor ruts around the prune orchard. The ladder's single pole slid into a rut, causing the ladder to open up. Employee #1 fell, fracturing his ankle in three places. The cause of the accident was not using enough care in placing the ladder.
