Employee falls from bridge

At about 3:30 a.m. on February 27, 2001, Employee #1 was working on the seismic retrofit of the west span of a bridge at Tower 5. He fell approximately 90 ft and landed on two metal-planked platforms. Employee #1 was moving from a set of stairs to one of the planked areas and was not tied-off when he proceeded into the area of planking. In addition, the area that he fell from was not provided with standard railings. He was diagnosed with compound fracture on the left and right legs and a dislocated shoulder.
