Event: 02/14/2001
Employee Fractures Ribs And Shoulder Falling From Ladder

At approximately 8:00 a.m. on February 14, 2001, Employee #1, a roofer and foreman for Mr. Roofing, fractured seven ribs and shoulder blade when he fell from a ladder. Employee #1 used a metal ladder to climb the neighbor's garage light well. At the light well, there was a fixed wooden ladder which belongs to homeowner. The ladder is attached to the wall leading to the main roof. As he climbed up, one of the wooden rungs failed and he fell, landing on the neighbor's garage roof. He fell approximately 12-15 feet and landed on his back. He fractured seven ribs and his scapula (shoulder blade). No witnesses observed the incident. Paramedics took Employee #1 to San Francisco General Hospital. He was kept in the hospital under observation. His employer failed to inspect the ladder.
