Employee Suffers Amputation While Cleaning The Dibbler

At approximately 5:15 a.m. Employee #1 was cleaning out the cleaning out the seed-line machine "dibbler" (a component of the conveyor system located some 15 in. inside the main frame). In accord with the company protocol, the entire conveyor system was left running in full mode to facilitate the cleaning process. Employee #1 inserted his hand into the moving "dibbler" and while cleaning it out he made contact with the metal cleat running across the "dibbler" opening. It instantly caught Employee #1's hand, holding him in place. Employee #1 began shouting and a coworker heard him and came to help. Employee #1 told the coworker to shut off the machine which was done immediately. The coworker also helped Employee #1 remove his hand and then took Employee #1 to the hospital where he was treated for an amputation and released.
