Event: 05/08/2008
Employee's Fingers Are Amputated in Drilling Rig

At approximately 8:10 a.m. on May 8, 2008, Employee #1 was attempting to unreave wire rope on an active mobile drill rig. His hand was drawn into and nipped between the drill's head pulley and the taught wire rope. The operator mistakenly drew the rope in drawing Employee #1's gloved hand into the pulley further. The operator was able to reverse the direction of rope travel allowing Employee #1 to withdraw his hand. Employee #1 was hospitalized with two amputated fingers and one mangled.
