Investigation Summary
At approximately 12:20 p.m. on November 22, 2006, Employee #1 was working at the food processing plant for G.L. Mezzetta Incorporated. She was changing over from slicing basil to parsley. With the machine running, she reached approximately 10 in. into the discharge chute with her left hand, to remove the excess product. Employee #1 was injured when her finger came in contact with the spindle knives on the vegetable slicing and dicing machine, manufactured by Urschel Laboratories Incorporated. She was hospitalized for the amputation of her finger.
