Event: 09/27/2005
Employee Amputates Fingers While Using Bent Saw

At approximately 11:40 a.m. on September 27, 2005, Employee #1 was cutting pieces of redwood approximately 0.625-in. by 5.25 ft long, with a Dewalt table saw, Model Number DW 744, Serial Number 43320. He was working at a lumber distribution center and was in the area called the fence tavern. The employer failed to provide a "push-stick" or the proper training on how to safely cut with a "push-stick". Employee #1 had completed one cut and was making the second, when the wood lurched forward, and four fingers on his left hand came into contact with the blade of the saw, even though the guard was in place. He received near amputations of the second, third and, fourth fingers and was hospitalized.
