Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201020666
Event: 08/03/2005
Employee's Finger Is Amputated by Saw

At approximately 1:15 p.m. on August 3, 2005, an employee was jointing a piece of 1.25-in. thick by 3.75-in. wide by 25.5-in. long lumber with a JET woodworking jointer, Model Number JJ-12. The jointer was equipped with a 3-blade cylindrical cutterhead. With the lumber lying on the table on its flat side, i.e. on its width, the employee held the feed end with his left hand and the tail end with his right hand. He then ran the lumber through the cutterhead. As he did this, the cutterhead caught and pulled the little finger section of his left glove. His left little finger then got caught by a blade and was amputated at the middle of the last digit. The employee was not hospitalized.
