Event: 08/20/1997
EMPLOYEE INJURED WHEN STRUCK BY FALLING TREE LIMB

At approximately 12:40 p.m. on August 20, 1997, workers were removing the top of a tree that had been blown against another tree by strong winds. Employee #1 climbed the tree to do the work, using a rope passed through the crotch of a limb to support the cut leader. As the leader's weight fell on the limb, the limb broke, and the falling leader pulled the rope tightly across Employee #1's back, seriously injuring him. Employee #1 required extensive hospital treatment for his injuries.
