Employee's fingertips amputated in chicken processor

Employee #1, the lead man, was adjusting and setting up a Dapec Systemate machine in a poultry processing plant. He was standing on a 30 in. high work platform and set his hand on the edge near the catch point to the gear sprocket. The machine had not yet been put into production and the area around the gear sprocket was not yet guarded. The fingertips on Employee #1's right hand were amputated.
