Employee's fingers injured when caught in conveyor

Employee #1, working for an employer that manufactures wood truss members for the construction industry, was cleaning waste wood dust and chips from a conveyor belt. He was working at his regularly assigned job at a web saw, a custom made combination saw used to make angle cuts for bracing truss joists. His index finger became caught in the conveyor where the belt meets the roller at the bottom of the incline and the skin was pulled from the finger. No extension tools were used during the cleaning process, although they were provided by the employer and were readily available at the work location.
