Employee's Finger Is Amputated While Cleaning Conveyor Jam

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on August 26, 2010, Employee #1 was working near a 25 in. wide by 16 in. deep conveyor that was transporting 2 in. by 6 in. wood scraps. The scraps were being moved at a rate of approximately 1 ft per 1.5 seconds. As the employee was clearing a jam with a leaving tool, he slipped and his left little finger was caught between a piece of wood and the side wall of the conveyor. His finger was amputated below the knuckle. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
