Employee's fingers amputated

An employee was cleaning out the discharge chute of a dust collector for rubber products. The chute is about 9 inches round. Inside the chute, about 17 inches from the end, is a rotating auger. The auger starts and stops automatically. The employee reached into the chute with her right hand and arm to dislodge material. With her arm and hand inside, the auger started and caught the employee's right index and middle fingers, resulting in a partial amputation of both. She was hospitalized for her injuries.
