Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170804132
Event: 10/06/1994
Employee amputates finger in miter saw

On the morning of September 29, 1994, Employee #1, of Brad and McClung Pace Co., was using a Hitachi 15 in. miter saw to cut 2 ft by 4 ft boards into 8 in. lengths. He was cutting 1 in. off a 9 in. piece of wood. Because the measurements were marked on the right-hand side of the saw, he held the board to the right of the saw with his left hand, and used his right hand to pull the saw down. The saw grabbed the piece of wood, pulling it into the blade along with Employee #1's hand. His left middle finger was amputated, and he was hospitalized.
