Employee bruises hand while reaching into press

Employee #1 was operating a Bliss 45 ton part revolution mechanical punch press. She was attempting to remove a 1 inch wide bar stock when she put her hand under the light curtain and activated the press with the foot pedal. The light curtain protected an 8 inch span in front of the press, leaving openings of 11 inches on top and 2 inches on the bottom of the light beam. The sides were protected by a barrier guard. The point of operation opening was 3 inches. Employee #1 suffered a bruised left hand.
