Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170681829
Event: 02/08/1995
Employee amputates two fingers in hauncher saw

A coworker of Employee #1 turned on a hauncher saw and noticed that the pressure pads did not release. He then turned off the saw and disconnected the air pressure hose, then reconnected the air pressure hose and turned on the saw, but again the pressure pads did not release. The coworker repeated this process three times with the same result. He then asked Employee #1 if he knew what was wrong with the saw. Employee #1 repeated the same process two more times. On his second attempt, after turning off the saw, he reached his left hand behind the left pressure pad. The blade was still rotating to a stop and caught his hand. His ring and little fingers were severed at the first joint. He was hospitalized.
