Investigation Summary
At approximately 11:30 a.m., Employee #1 and coworkers were taking down a tree. All the branches had been removed and they were dropping the trunk of the tree. Because the tree was located between two houses, the trunk was being pulled by a truck to ensure that it fell in the correct direction. Employee #1 was cutting on the bole of the tree when it split, and part of the tree fell on him. He was transported to the Ohio State Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:10 p.m. According to the employer, the tree was diseased inside the trunk, but this was not apparent from the outside.
