Employee's fingers caught between belt and chute

At approximately 11:20 a.m. on July 18, 2003, Employee #1, a special cleanup sanitation worker, was cleaning a mesh link belt conveyor. Employee #1 was using a Kobe hp/low volume 18 in. water spray gun at Lye Peeler Number 2. Due to low water pressure, the employee was positioned at a location outside of the catwalk's platformed areas. The gun tip came into contact with the mesh link belt conveyor and the metal chute area. The employee released the gun and the hose turned, pulling his left hand into the pinch point area. Employee #1 sustained serious injuries to the fingers on his left hand and was hospitalized.
