Table Saw Amputates Employee's Finger

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on December 31, 2003, Employee #1 was operating a 10-in. table saw, cutting 2.375-in. stock. Employee #1 had finished cutting a piece of the stock. Employee #1 noticed that a piece of wood had become stuck between the blade of the saw and the opening. He reached into the moving blade area to retrieve the piece. Employee #1's hand came into contact with the blade, resulting in amputations to his middle and ring fingers. Employee #1 was hospitalized as a result of the injuries.
