Employee's finger amputated by welding machine

On February 1, 2003, Employee #1, of Ball Western Can Co., was threading welding wire into a Body-Maker manufactured by Soudronic AG. The Line Number 2 Body-Maker is a full automatic tinplate seam-welding machine. Employee #1 moved a drive belt with his hand to release a tensioning piston. The Drive belt caused the piston to move and activate the machine drive. The drive belt rotated and pulled his hand around the pulley. Employee #1 had the tips of two fingers on his left hand amputated. He was not hospitalized.
