Employee trips and fractures hip in same-level fall

At approximately 6:00 p.m. on September 10, 1998, Employee #1, a food service aide for Little Company of Mary Health Services, Bay Harbor Hospital, was distributing food trays to patients in the#2 West department. While passing out a dinner tray to the patient in bed 219a, she tripped on a bed linen/blanket hanging off the foot of the bed and fell to the ground, fracturing her right hip. She was hospitalized at the same facility for approximately four weeks. Employee #1 was not adequately trained to handle tripping hazards in patients' rooms.
