Employee breaks ankle while climbing into truck

On July 8, 1994, Employee #1, of the Sacramento Bee, was moving from one truck to another to help load loose bundles of newspaper on the loading dock. While climbing into the back of the truck, Employee #1 turned sideways to get between a roller conveyor and the side of the truck. His foot slipped from the top edge of a metal lift platform that was attached to the rear of the truck. It went down between the bed of the truck and the folded-up lift platform, and Employee #1 fell backward, breaking his ankle in 5 places. First aid was applied by the nurse and doctor on site. After about 3 hours he was sent to Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento, CA, where he was admitted.
