Employee Amputates Finger in Stump Grinder

Employee #1, a crew leader for Mark's Tree Service, was assisting a coworker in starting the engine of a 13 HP combustion engine stump grinder at a private residence. They were hired to remove and grind the stumps of four trees. The coworker pulled the pull-start while Employee #1 grabbed the belt attached to the pulleys. They pulled at the same time to help start the engine. The pulleys moved the belt and Employee #1's fingers were pinched between the lower pulley and the belt. The top section of his left pinkie finger was amputated but he did not require hospitalization.
