Employee's finger crushed by descending ram

At approximately 6:40 p.m. on March 3, 1995, a four-person crew, of Dade MicroScan, Inc., Sacramento, CA, was working on a machine that became jammed. Employee #1 went to the machine to find the problem. He turned off the power and closed the air line valve. After raising the hinged plastic guard, he pressed the ejector plunger down, which activated the device, and the stored air pressure cycled through once. His left index finger was broken behind the first joint when the ram closed the drive of the ejector plunger, pinching his finger between the two pieces. The accident was reported to his supervisor. No first aid was given; Employee #1 drove himself to the medical clinic several miles away.
