Investigation Summary
On November 10, 1996, Employee #1 was performing routine mechanical work in a truck shop, replacing a winch on the dumpsters of a Peterbilt 93 transfer dump truck. While raising the winch into position with an overhead crane, it became caught on the drive line. With his left hand, Employee #1 used the remote crane controls to lower the winch while directing it with his right hand. As he raised the winch again, the fingers on his right hand became caught in the pinch point between the gear box and the engine. Employee #1's right index finger was fractured.
