Employee injures head in fall from store display structure

On May 24, 1996, Employee #1 was working in a store, stacking merchandise on the top of a 12 ft high display structure. He was sitting on the edge of this wooden structure, while a coworker tossed him up packages of comforters to stack. During this operation, the edge molding of the display gave way and Employee #1 fell to the floor. He landed on his head and suffered a severe head injury. Paramedics were called and Employee #1 was taken to Western Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. As of January 15, 1997, he was unable to talk and was in a rehabilitation center in San Jose, CA.
