Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201172160
Event: 10/01/2002
Employee Fractures Wrist In Fall From Second Floor

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on October 1, 2002, Employee #1, a carpenter, was framing a wall section on the second floor with other members of the crew. The crew had just positioned the second floor walls, and the perimeter guardrails had been moved. As they were positioning a section of the walls, the base plate on the wall broke while nailing a new 2-inch by 4-inch base plate by the wall. While using a pneumatic nailing gun, Employee #1 had his feet on top of the board to hold it in position. However, the board rolled over causing Employee #1 to lose his balance and fall 11 inches to the ground, breaking his wrist. He was transported to Kaiser Hospital in Roseville, California to treat his wrist.
